Two productions off of Safety Scissors new album, Tainted Lunch, have been disarmed of all the fancy bells and whistles to reveal the straightforward candid songs which lie underneath. Compared to the tracks on the album the songs included on this 7" single are in a pre-produced stage...as if they travelled backwards in a musical time machine. Almost like cover versions done at the local high school talent show, the tracks have a guileless simplicity which demonstrates what music is about; similar to what The Shaggs' naivete taught us.
Sunlight's On The Other Side is solely guitar and bass underneath the vocals lamenting a long distance love affair while Breastbone 's bodily references are fleshed out by adding drums and electric piano making for a soulful garage number.
Erlend Øye, half of the dreamy duo Kings of Convenience, lends his dulcet backup vocals to both tracks as well as short successive strums on his vintage elecric guitar. On Breastbone, the all-star team of players includes in aspiring pianist Sutekh, drummer for Death Sentence: Panda! Chris Dixon, and Geoff White on Bass.
